Welcome to HI-New York City, Manhattan’s premier hostel located in a historic Victorian-style building on the Upper West Side. The hostel is in a great location for exploring the city and is only two blocks from Central Park, a 10 minute train ride to Times Square and close to a main subway line, lots of bars, and a 24-hour grocery store.

Our hostel is a hub of friendly atmosphere and great facilities. We have a large kitchen, family room, renovated bathrooms and showers, free linens and towels, free Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception, private lockers, on-site laundry and free billiards/pool table.

HI-New York City offers plenty of guest discounts to help make your travel budget go further. We plan daily tours and events including pub crawls, volunteer-led tours and evening outings, comedy shows in our in-house theatre room and ‘Jerry's Grand Tour’ which gives you a full day touring New York City!

I had a pleasant stay of 3 nights. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the common areas, especially bathrooms. The 6 person dorm on the other hand smelled a bit like a gym room. I was only really at the hostel to sleep and shower. I did not personally feel unsafe, but it would be very easy for someone to get in through the main key-card door without suspicion by simply waiting for someone to exit (due to the amount of foot traffic). Proximity to subway station was very convenient for travel.

Travel tips...

Nightlife & entertainment tip

Upper Broadway from about 79th St. north has many places to wile away your time. Although there might be for the slightly older (~30+) hosteler. The NYC hostel staff know more dance and music venues for the younger (~<35) hostelers.
