Many worrying aspects of my stay at YHA Bristol: 1. Verbal abuse from a roommate in a bunk room within an hour of settling in led to a need to change my room. Staff commented that one of the 2 abusive guests hadn't even checked in so why was I removed from the room and not them? If, as a life member of the YHA, I had to show my passport to access my bunk, why was someone inside the building using the facilities without even checking in? Why was a member removed from the room instead of the non-member being inconvenienced? To make my point clear, I was forced to check in a total of 3 times and move rooms 3 times with a day in between when I carried my stuff around Bristol because I had been verbally abused. It was expensive and really not worth it for the reasons that will also follow in point 2 2. Saturday night the fire alarm went off many times for over an hour. Guests were smoking on the 3rd floor, no fire warden appeared to advise guests who responded to the alarm, staff reacted as though it was a mere inconvenience and it was to be expected. "Drunk guests lean on the button".... Where was the fire warden? Why was the building not evacuated and adequately checked for sources of fire? Why was the alarm dismissed? Why do drunk guests rule the roost at Bristol YHA? 3. The only point of a bunk in a YHA is to sleep and the facilities and staff irresponsibility guaranteed that I was utterly exhausted by my trip to Bristol. Really I feel that the YHA owes me a refund. In 30 years of YHA use, including Bristol it was definitely the pits - horrid experience all round, nothing can make up for lack of sleep and 3 check-ins where 1 was necessary 4. YHA Bristol is so extreme that the reception / booking staff need to be asking guests "Are you here for clubbing?" And separating guests along those criteria. The clubbers rule the roost at Bristol, run riot and staff have no control over the premises

You should put some hooks up in the showers so people have somewhere to hang their towel and belongings. The entire corridor of floor 3 smelled strongly of urine. The elevator was very slow, it might help to put up signs directing people to the stairs. The process for borrowing a towel is needlessly complicated, I had to leave the hostel at 11:00 pm to get cash from a cash point, had to pay a £0.50 fee to get that cash and then went back to the hostel...all to take a shower.
