We enjoyed the open outlook from the dining room and lounge onto the garden. The room needed some maintenance, a lightbulb was blown and the staff couldn't fix it because of its difficult location. (they did offer to move us though which was a thought) but we made do. The upstairs section of the room had chips on a ledge that were from a previous user and the shower room didn't drain very well.

my main reason was to see the railway mueseum at York. as to my stay I was given a four bed room on my own it was verry relaxing to stay there I do not think you would need to change anything, it is close to public transport or if you do a lot of walking it is all close by. As an Australian away from home I did enjoy my stay.

The hostel was modern and clean. You need to take bus or walk along the river for about 20-30 minutes to go to the town centre. However it was a nice stay. The hostel should have checked all the guests whether they are member of youth hostel or not upon check-in. I forgot to receive 3 pounds discount per night!
