Hostel seemed to be run down, for example, paint was chipping off the walls throughout the hostel. Room keys were old fashioned, and did not lock themselves. Also, all the security doors throughout the world hostel meant to keep the place secure were not even utilised. Lastly, and most importantly, there were not enough lockers to secure belongings for everyone in the rooms. Pretty bad considering foreign travellers need to secure their passports. Disappointing when compared to other YHAs.

Fantastic setting on lake front. Comfortable restaurant. Good breakfast. Drying room and laundry facility useful. Staff were sometimes off-hand at front desk and one fellow serving food in the dining room could have benefited from a hair-net. Supplies @ at front desk were in short supply (soap, shampoo). Within walking distance of fells.Bike rental not available at hostel but a walk away in Ambleside. Bus at the door and convenient for Windermere. Lots of bathrooms and showers and always clean.
