Welcome to our hostel

Wicklow Hostel is a five-star hostel which was previously a converted farmhouse. Set at the bottom of Knockree, overlooking the Glencree Mountains. The hostel reopened in April 2008 after a €4m investment. The Wicklow Way (famous walking route) passes through the Knockree Hostel grounds and is the ideal location for hill-walkers.

The Wicklow Way Hostel boasts all the usual characteristics of a top rated five-star property including en-suite rooms, family rooms, meeting room, restaurant (catering for groups only), self-catering kitchen, and full car & coach parking. All rooms at Wicklow Hostel have a spectacular view of the amazing scenery that surrounds the hostel.

The hostel offers adventure activities in conjunction with Eco Adventure Ireland on our hostel grounds for groups including pony trekking, mountain biking, archery, team tasks and orienteering. They also offer ecology fiend study days for schools. For further information please email

Thank you for the uncomplicated stay and the last-minute extension when we got to know that the planes are cancelled because of the wheather conditions. The windows are really thin and don't have seals so it was cold and draughty. Besides the hinted air trap in the entrance room would be great, then you can sit in the lounge without freezing in the winter days.

This is ideal or walks in the mountains-I used it as a stopover only, but the sitout area is large, massive dining area, kitchen you can use, plenty of parking with access via the backdoor, so hauling your stuff was made easier. I had a room to myself with showers across the outside hall. free wifi and the place is spotless with recycling bins. I a sure in the summer the place is busy as they can accommodate large amounts o people.

The hostel and the location were beautiful. I appreciated the email from staff letting us know what to expect and the latest check-in time because it was more difficult to find that expected. I wish that breakfast or at least the self-service kitchen could have been open later because we felt quite rushed in the morning. The maps on the walls were helpful, would have appreciated some A4 or A3 sized ones with local walking trails to takeaway or if they sold some maps and books at reception.

Intelligently designed hostel. I found it was spacious and airy. One of the best hostels that i have stayed in. The beds were nice and comfortable, with lots of space between beds.
