Great central location, easy to find everything you need as a budget traveller. The staff and other guests created a very welcoming environment, and when I was told "this is your home" i felt it was true. Hardly a day passed without the sharing of a meal, and all this while i speak neither french nor arabic. The building is very old, but staff does a great job of keeping it clean and tidy. I left feeling grateful for the honesty and helpfulness of my new friends in Djerba.

It's the cheapest place by far in town, don't expect a lot of comfort. Still: The breakfast (bread and coffee) is included in the price, the atmosphere of the old funduq is as great as the staff. The beds are ok. You should try to get a room with a shower. As we stayed, the majority of the guest were tunesians themselves - and due to the situation in libya some libyan refugees, waiting for an end of the violence in tripolis. It was booked out the whole week, so I recommend to book in advance.

Attraction tip

Arabic coffee from an outdoor patio. If you wand handcrafted artisab products, the medina sells the real stuff. If you gho down an alley you might often find artisans hard at work.

Budget meal tip

A local bakery a few blocks from the hostel sell great bread. Pick up some tunisian made olive oil, and maybe some balsamic vinigar and your set. There is a supermarket in the same building that houses Ulysses medical center.
