Some say that the charming, ancient city of Tallinn, Estonia, is the ‘medieval pearl of Europe’ because of its incredibly well-preserved Hanseatic architecture, cobbled streets and narrow alleyways. The city is a popular destination for stag and hen parties due to the low cost of alcohol and wild nightlife. Aside from this, Tallinn offers visitors a glimpse into its heritage. Medieval spires tower over traditional gabled houses, hidden courtyards and ancient churches. Spend some time just wandering aimlessly around the fascinating Old Town, taking in the old-world scenery. There are hostels in most of Tallinn’s neighbourhoods, but wherever you choose to stay, venture past the Old Town to the city’s other neighbourhoods. Kalamaja is an artsy, bohemian district with delightful wooden architecture. Pirita’s the place to go during the hot weather for the beach and watersports. Then there's Kadriorg where the leafy streets are lined with magnificent mansions.
