Norway's fourth-largest city, Stavanger is very picturesque with a great mix of old and new. Here you’ll find a beautiful harbour where cruise ships often dwarf the surrounding buildings, lots of museums and galleries, a well-preserved old town and access to some gorgeous fjords. Stay at one of our Stavanger hostels and you can hike up to Preikestolen (aka Pulpit Rock), where you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the Lysefjord (chosen by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten most spectacular viewing points in the world). Wander around the old town’s cobbled streets and admire more than 170 traditional wooden houses. Go and see the 12th-century Stavanger Cathedral, Norway's oldest cathedral. Visit the unique Norwegian Canning Museum, housed in an authentic cannery where you can see how canned sprats and fishballs were produced. Or chill-out at Solastranden Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the Stavanger region.
