South Korea

16 Entries

South Korea is spectacular. The country is dotted with 20 national parks and inhabited by zealously nature–loving people. In South Korea you have the opportunity to hike over pine–clad hills, bike through stunning landscape and ski at one of 12 resorts. It's a great place to learn the martial art of taekwondo and then soak in hot springs. Seoraksan National Park in the north features stupendous waterfalls, rugged peaks and ancient temples. Seoul, the capital, boasts pagodas, palaces and pleasure gardens. Buyeo in the west has the remains of the old capital of the Baekje kingdom. Gyeongju in the east offers one of the most magnificent temples in Asia. Korea's hostels present a wide choice of accommodation in city centres, by the coast and in the heart of the countryside. They range from the Korean Folk Village (not simply a tourist site but a genuine community showing the rural way of life), to the sport and fitness town of Cheju on Jejudo Island (or 'Land of Morning Calm').
