Flea markets, vintage boutiques, Christmas markets, antique shops, trendy fashion stores and traditional food and beer are all easy to find in Germany. Make sure you’ve got plenty of room in your suitcase or backpack because you’re going to find it difficult to resist leaving this enchanting country without shopping at some point. Germany’s Christmas markets are some of the best in the world – glittering fairy lights are strung over lines of wooden huts which sell anything from gingerbread to candles. Warm yourself up with a cup of mulled wine and pause to listen to cheerful carollers. If you haven’t planned your hostel-stay for December don’t panic – locally made glasswork, carpentry or artwork is abundant. Travel through the cities of Munich, Hamburg or Berlin, working your way through the bustling shops, markets and malls; or tour the smaller medieval villages and rolling countryside, picking up new treasures at each destination.
