Hostelling International Tripbook for

Scotland's culture

16 Entries

Scotland offers a wealth of cultural activities to keep you entertained during your hostel stay. Spend the day wandering along medieval streets or searching for the famous Loch Ness Monster in Inverness. You can listen to live music in iconic venues, such as, Barrowland Ballroom and King Tut’s Wah-Wah Hut in Glasgow, or soak up the lively atmosphere at Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, the largest festival in Europe. For a taste of authentic and historic Scottish culture, come along to the Highland games during summertime where you can watch kilted locals playing bagpipes, competing at tug-of-war and selling local produce at stalls. Both small villages and large towns take part in the games, attracting up to 10,000 spectators. Don’t leave without trying haggis – this Scottish delicacy might sound unappealing (it’s made of sheep’s innards encased in sheep’s stomach!) but it’s a well-loved favourite among locals.
