Within fairly easy reach are the historic towns, monasteries and fortresses of Russia's Golden Ring. To the west is Novgorod with its medieval markets and churches. To the north, on the Gulf of Finland, St Petersburg remains one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Russia's hostels are in great locations and are convenient gateways for exploring this alluring country.
