Portland, Oregon, or The City of Roses, is a fun, eco-friendly and artsy American city which prides itself on being ‘weird’. Shadowed by the snow-capped Taulatin Mountains and in close proximity to the Pacific ocean, stay at a hostel in Portland and you’ll be in the best of both worlds. You could easily spend an entire day at the gigantic Washington Park. Covering more than 410 acres, it contains a zoo, two museums, public art, amphitheatre, sports areas, wild forest, and Japanese Gardens which are supposedly the most authentic outside of Japan. Grab some lunch at one of Portland’s famous food carts which sell culinary delights from around all over the world. The trendiest neighbourhood is the Alberta Arts District where, on the last Thursday of every month, a street party is held where the galleries stay open late and artists, musicians and performers line the noisy streets.
