Iceland, your geology exploration

17 Entries

Visit one of our hostels in Iceland and you’ll soon realise that this country is overflowing with some of the most fascinating geological wonders in the world. Dotted with volcanoes, steaming with geysers, bubbling over with geothermal springs and home to some jaw-dropping waterfalls, rivers and lakes, this is a truly fascinating country. Iceland is home to Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull, which covers a massive 8% of the country’s surface area. Visit the most impressive waterfalls – head to Bíldudalur to see the spectacular Dynjandi waterfalls, or Skógar to see the cascading Skógafoss Waterfall. Borgarnes is one of the best hiking regions in Iceland. Here, you’ll have the chance to hike through mountains, over black-sand beaches and past steaming hot springs and gleaming fjord. Myvatn Lake is not to be missed. Formed after a volcanic eruption 2,300 years ago, the brilliantly blue lake is surrounded by mind-blowing natural attractions.
