Spread across an island and a peninsula on mainland Brazil, you’ll find the unspoiled city of Florianópolis. It's a blissful hostel destination boasting dozens of pristine beaches, pulsing and varied nightlife, excellent surfing conditions and traditional Azorean fishing villages. The city is one of Brazil’s most popular beach destinations with a whopping 42 beaches spread along its coastlines. The surf’s so good in Florianópolis (Floripa, for short) that the Association of Surfing Professionals head over once a year for their world championship tour. You can also have a go at wind-surfing and scuba-diving. Or for something a little different, try sand-boarding down the Praia da Joaquina dunes. Head to Praça XV, the city centre, to explore some of Florpia’s cultural attractions such as Igreja de NS do Rosário, a colonial church; The Museu Histórico de Santa Catarina, a former palace; and Velha Figueira, an enormous tree said to have magical qualities.
