We all love to luxuriate, but a little bit of movement goes a long way, even when you’re overseas and having some downtime. Exercising produces endorphins, and endorphins give you a natural buzz called the ‘runner’s high’, even if you’re soaring above mountain peaks or cycling through a city. Then there’s adrenaline – another neurochemical of happiness – the ‘energy molecule’ which will mean that bungee jumping off a bridge or black water rafting will leave you with a huge grin, as well as a fluttering heart.
We’ve collected a few of our favourite active and energising pick-ups which will offer you a natural boost, and the best hostels for active travellers.

You might feel like launching yourself off a bridge, a clifftop or a plane is against every natural instinct in your body – but if you’re strapped in and safe, this is the ultimate rush.
