Hostelling International Tripbook for

Dolenjska – from the brown bear to the white birch trees

9 Entries

Dolejnska is situated in the south-western part of Slovenia and spans from the Ljubljana basin to the border with Croatia. The central town of the region is Novo mesto which is just big enough for a lively culture yet small enough to capture the true essence of Dolenjska. Towards the south you will wander into Bela Krajina, which is hugged by the river Kolpa and its beautiful banks covered with white birch trees. As we head west it is almost impossible not to be amazed by the seemingly endless forests of Kočevje, the mysterious castles and a rich cultural heritage. You can also have a great day trip by the river Krka, one of the most interesting Karst rivers, which offers great fishing areas and pleasant kayaking spots.
