Hostelling International Tripbook for

Copacabana

8 Entries

The city of Copacabana, Bolivia, is a holy city situated on the shores of the stunning Lake Titicaca. Straddling the border between Bolivia and Peru, Lake Titicaca is the largest lake in South America and on its waters you’ll find Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun). The island is mostly made up of rocky, hilly terrain, has no paved roads and is scattered with ancient ruins. Then there's the ‘floating islands’ which are home to the Uros Tribe - their ancient civilisation pre-dates the Incas and they remain faithful to their customs. From your hostel, take a trip to the nearby Incan Temple of the Sun or to the Island of the Moon where you’ll see the ruins of a supposed Incan convent. Head over in February and you’ll have the chance to see the festival of the Virgin of Candelaria which involves lots of music, dancing and street parties.
