Calafate, a small town in Patagonia, Argentina, is a popular destination with hostel goers because of the stunning natural beauty of the region. Named after the blue-black Calafate berries that grow in the region, legend says those who eat them will return to el Calafate. Take a trip into the past at The Center of Historical Interpretation where you'll learn about Calafate’s history from the age of dinosaurs, to the beginning of colonialism, to the modern day. Visit the Walichu caves where you’ll see archaeological signs of primitive human beings including drawings and painted hand prints on the cave walls. Spend a day at the stunning national park, Torres del Paine, seeing the spectacular lakes, mountains, and wildlife. The highlight of the trip is ice glacier Perito Moreno. Take a tour to the 97 square mile frozen wonder and, if you’re feeling adventurous, opt for a trek over the ice.
