Bogota

13 Entries

Bogotá, Columbia is overlooked by the towering Mount Monserrate. It sits 8,660ft above sea level and encompasses a mixture of modern skyscrapers and historical buildings. Taking taxis to and from your hostel is advised, but Bogotá is becoming a safer place and attracting more tourists due to its improving reputation. La Candelaria is the city’s oldest district and is full of colourful and diverse architecture, museums, vendors selling delicious street food, and centuries-old churches. It’s also worth visiting the Gold museum where you’ll see pre-Hispanic gold work as well as archaeological pottery, textiles, shell and wood made by indigenous people before contact with Europe was made. Take a guided tour of the lively nightlife where you’ll be shown the best places to sample beers, wines, and local snacks. Bogotá is also home to Rock al Parque - the largest rock festival in Colombia featuring performances from the world’s best rock bands.
