Switzerland’s small city of Bern has remained relatively unchanged since times gone by. Check out some of Bern’s museums - the Museum of Fine Arts was established in 1879 and houses over 3,000 paintings and sculptures including the works of Picasso and Hodler. Then there’s the Historical Museum of Bern which is impressive even from the outside with its tall spires and the statues of the Welttelegrafen-Denkmal fountain sitting proudly at the entrance. When you’re done with museums, there are still plenty of historic landmarks to look at – visit the medieval Zytglogge tower. Built in the 13th century, the tower has served as a clock tower, prison, guard tower, and civic memorial. Dining out can be expensive in Bern so grab some tasty street food on the go or stock up in the supermarket and cook at the hostel.
