Classic Baroque and Renaissance architecture intermingle with bold modern designs in Antwerp, Belgium. It's a city that’s proud of its heritage but brazenly moving forward. The city stretches out from its focal point which is the monumental Cathedral of our Lady: a world heritage site that took 169 years of labour to build and even then only one of the five spires was completed. Inside, you’ll find significant works of art by the city’s famous Baroque painter, Peter Paul Rubens. In striking contrast to this Gothic masterpiece is the very modern MAS Museum - a 60m high glass and red-sandstone creation that houses eight floors of exhibitions and offers magnificent panoramic views of Antwerp from its rooftop. The city is also known for its diamond trade - watch the gems being cut and polished at sparkling showroom, Diamondland. Don’t return to your hostel without heading to Grote Markt to sample the buzzing nightlife.
