How would you like to join HI?

I am an individual traveller

HI Membership opens the door to the world’s largest network of safe, clean, welcoming hostels. HI Members save at least 10% on overnight rates compared to non-members. Plus, Membership gives you access to thousands of travel-related savings at home and overseas. eMembership can be purchased either on it's own or together with your hostel booking online at hihostels.com!  Alternatively you can purchase membership via your local National Youth Hostel Association or at the hostel on arrival. Check out the full story in HI Membership.

How can I work/volunteer at a HI hostel?

If you would like to enquire about working at one of our hostels, please contact the hostel directly using the contact details on the hostel’s page.

If you do not have a specific hostel but know the country you would like to work in, please contact the National Youth Hostel Association in the country you are interested in by visiting Our network of hostels

I am a Hostel owner/operator

Hostelling international is not a website or booking engine but a federation and membership association.  Our members are the National Associations that run the hostelling movement in their part of the world.  They must be not for profit and subscribe to our philosophy and mission.  The booking engine is a service we provide to our members to keep their costs low hence it is not possible to be on the booking engine unless you are part of the network and follow our mission, philosophies and rules.

If you want to become part of the network then please check first to see if you have a National Association in your part of the world.  You can check by looking at our network of hostels.  If there is a National Association, please contact them and ask for details.

If there is not a national association in your part of the world, we’d encourage you to find some support and create a National Association. We have many tools and a wealth of information on how to run National Associations.  If you think you are in a position to set up a National Association in your country contact us and we can help you through the process.  We have in the past directly licenced hostels in territories that don’t have National Associations but we are not currently accepting any new agreements of that type.  We acknowledge that we function best when there is local knowledge and local support to ensure all hostels in a territory move in a positive direction and in line with our mission.

Please email info@hihostels.com if you are interested in starting a National Association in a country where we don’t currently have one.
