Die Unterstützung bei Fragen zu Ausfügen, Einkaufen und Essen war sehr gut. Vielleicht könnte man Sitzplätze mit Überwachung im Garten aus Stein mauern.

Quite heartbreaking to see how careless design and cheap materials can ruin a lovely place. I've stayed at many hostels in the UK and Germany over the years but it's been a while that I have seen one that was so uncomfortable and downright ugly inside. A rabbit warren of walls and partitions on the ground floor, mismatching carpets, depressing lighting, and except for two funky pink plastic kettles, everything, including the computer at Reception, seemed to be from the early 1990s. The self-catering kitchen is dark and has only a tiny seating area with backless stools to perch on (we only found out on the last day that you could take your food to the dining room, which is on the other side of the building. A note in the kitchen might help!). There is nowhere comfortable to sit except in the lounge, which was dominatetd by a woman constantly watching TV at great noise all the time we were there. The front lawn/garden has a few picknick tables, but it's bordering onto a very busy road, and there's nowhere to be out when it's raining. So we ended up spending the evenings at The Bull at Streatley, which is fortunately very close. Considering the great structure of this Victorian villa, and the efforts the YHA has made in the past to rescue it, it's a shame that it's in such an unwelcoming state. Some fresh paint, new flooring, better chairs and some reading lights in the lounge would be a start. And please get rid of that TV! It kills all conversation in the one decent room there is, and people use their personal devices these days anyway. The staff was friendly and the drying room positively a hot place. Breakfast was OK but everything, even the cheese, came in tiny plastic sachets. Not very green, I'm afraid. We did meet some very nice people and hat some good chats, which is what staying at a hostel is all about and which is why I keep coming back to them. Good hostel design must not necessarily cost a lot of money but please consider people's needs and pay some respect to asthetic principles. Streatley YH could be a beautiful place and I hope it will become one in the near future!

When I reserved all that was available was a private room. I was perplexed to discover I was in a two bunk tiny tiny room for nearly 100.00 US dollars. That should be clear when reserving. I have used several hostels in UK and this was the littlest room, could barely take off my pack. For that money, remove one set of beds. And, maybe refresh the mattress. Least comfortable hostel sleep.
