This Icelandic hostel is located in the town's centre on the alluring Heimaey Island, one of Westman Islands. The islanders have their own traditional culture, like bird hunting, egg collecting and cliff rappelling. In January 1973 an eruption began in Heimaey and lasted until early July. The remains of this event are among the island´s most fascinating historical locales. Now the locals are saving the remains of the eruption and make them more accessible; including digging up 7-10 houses that had disappeared under the ashes. The Vestmannaeyjar hostel is a clean and friendly place to stay with well-equipped self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities, common room, bar and Internet access. There are many activities in Heimaey: sailing around the island, bird watching, golf, hiking, horseback riding, museums, swimming, whale watching etc. This Icelandic hostel is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of nature.
