A unique opportunity to stay in an old prison, STF Långholmen Hostel is located on Långholmen island in central Stockholm. The building used to be the Crown Prison until 1975, when the last convict left. The hostel is close to Södermalm - well-known for its bars, restaurants, theatres, galleries and lively atmosphere - and the beach, green areas and public transport.
Accommodation is in well-equipped cells with 2-4 bunks, with or without private bathroom, and most cells have their own shower and WC. After your day discovering Stockholm, rest your feet back at the hostel in the TV room, Internet room or grab a coffee at the café and bar.
Inside this distinctive youth hostel visit the prison museum, illustrating the long history of the prison. In contrast take a relaxing stroll on Långholmen - its maze of paths are ideal for walking or jogging.
What travellers think
Although it is a quite interesting location to spend the night, breakfast and laundry are not included in the price, that is quite high. Especially, when one compares it with other hostels from Hosteling International (e.g. the Netherlands or Vienna, Austria) that have a comparable "high price", there those services are included.

we spent 1 week in this very nice hostel and it was a great time. It's very easy to get to the old centre of the Stockholm, we walked every day about 30 minutes, but it takes only 10 by tube. Langholmen it's a peaceful island. The staff was very helpful and make us feel welcome. The cell are small but very clean and confortable. It was a surprise to find TV, soap, shampoo and an hairdryer in the room. We say thank you to the staff for our wonderful stay there!
