Skógar Hostel

Hostel Skógar

Hostelling International

Welcome to our hostel

Hostel Skógar is situated in an old school, close to Skógafoss, one of the best known waterfalls in Iceland. Skógar is a popular place surrounded by great and varied nature - think glaciers, mountains, black beaches, green acres, forested areas, waterfalls and good hiking routes.

At the hostel you will find a common room to meet other travellers in, a TV room to chill out and watch a movie, a garden so you can sit outside when the weather’s good and a self-catering kitchen to cook your meals in – alternatively Anna’s Café nearby is the most favoured restaurant.

Skógar Hostel is a great stop over for those who are hiking over Fimmvörðuháls, which is one of the most popular routes in the country. The nearby Skógar Museum is also one of the most frequently visited of its kind in Iceland.

die lage am wasserfall ist wirklich umwerfend, das personal nett und hilfsbereit. etwas schade war, dass in der küche keine basics (salz) zu finden waren. das machte die planung etwas mühsam.

The beds were very uncomfortable. It was like sleeping in a cell - very little room. Headboards at the end of the bed would have made a difference and better mattresses. The staff were helpful but I did feel that their priority were with the hotel guests. The lighting was very poor in the lounge area so not conducive to reading and relaxing.

A very ordinary hostel; not bad but I've certainly stayed in better. Great location, just a short drive or walk from Skogarfoss waterfall. Decent sized dorm & comfortable mattress but there were 2 really bad things, neither of which are any fault of the hostel - 1. A group of 8 Thai people took over the kitchen at dinner time & the food they were cooking stunk out the hostel with a disgusting smell, like 1,000 smelly feet. 2. One of these Thai guys was staying in my dorm and snored like a pig.

We (family of 4) loved Skogar Youth Hostel. It was all very clean with a good kitchen. Lovely to wake up to all the bird song in the morning and handy to be able to use the hotel restaurant.
