The hostel is located at the centre of town, in an old house built as a hotel during the golden years of Siglufjörður. The surrounding nature is renowned for its beauty and is perfect for outdoor activities. Siglufjörður is a skier’s paradise, has outstanding slopes and surrounding valleys make great trails for cross-country skiing. The fjords and valleys in the area are popular for bird-watching and hiking.
The rooms are well equipped and comfortable and the common areas are great for relaxing or chatting to your fellow travellers.
Siglufjörður used to be the herring capital of Iceland and a thriving colourful town with a goldrush-like atmosphere. Signs of its past glory can still be seen in The Herring Era Museum, and breathe life into the remarkable past of the town which peaks during the Herring Adventure festival in August. The Folk Music festival is held by the Museum of Icelandic Folk Music in July.

First floor room with only sheer curtains made us feel like we were right in the midst of the happy singing drunks outside, and thin walls gave us the chance to be serenaded by the irregular snores of the man in the next room, which would have been great but sleep was what we were after. Be sure to bring eyeshades and earplugs.
