Extremely clean and smart. Only downside is low lighting levels in the main room, our older eyes found it hard to read. A pleasure to stay . I'll go again.

Great location. Great place but shame they cant organise to put the heating on especially when it was very cold( snowing as we left). They need to supply washing up liquid but otherwise very well equipped. The wood burning stove was good but couldnt find any instructions for the computer. The phone supplied doesnt work. We tried to ring the warden about the heating. The person who came to collect the money apparently wasnt the warden

As anyone who reads through the comments can see, we do have 2 particular problems with running an unmanned hostel that has infrequent casual visitors. Firstly if, for whatever reason we have not received a note of your booking, and have not emailed you with directions & the door code, you will have a problem getting in (we try to keep it ready, but the heating may not be on); the second is that covering for the warden’s holidays (yes, he’s off again this week & last) is a problem especially in the middle of lambing. I do apologise for the occasional lapse, we try to have alternatives, such as the wood burning stove, as back up. The economics of operating a hostel here are dire, SYHA closed their hostels in neighbouring Glens Isla & Clova years ago. Please remember this is a hostel, not a hotel, and actually gives you really good value for money. Our alternative, to avoid occasional disappointment is, as many other hostels do, to stop taking individual bookings and take groups only. Please bear with us.

It would have been very helpful if we had been emailed information about how to get into the hostel (i.e. the door code) before we got there. when we arrived at 9.30pm in the dark last Thursday night we couldn't find a way in to the hostel. There were only 2 other people in the building at the time and it took ages for them to realise we were there trying to get in. Also when you rang them, as I wanted to know some information before I got there no-one ever answered the phone.

See response to subsequent comment 29-4-16. I’m sorry about no-one answering the phone and am aware it can be a problem. The reason, which doesn’t help you, is that we are out most of the time. The biggest problem with this is last minute bookings. I can’t really see a way round this short of concentrating on groups only, which are by far our biggest business. If you email, it is far easier to respond to you from wherever we are.

Location is superb but warning if you satnav, it takes you to a random private house on the other side of the glen. Warm rooms but not hot all night they click off around midnight so its cool to sleep which I loved only three channels on tv bbc1 bbc2 & babestation Never met the staff nobody came to collect any money from me loo clean fridge and utensil immaculate I couldn't find a mop of cloths when I spilt water on the floor 9.8 out of ten its great!!!!

We turned up late on a winter night to find the hostel open for us and wonderfully cosy. We were the only occupants that night. An excellent conversion from the old school buildings. We shall return for another stay. Thank you to Robert.
