Welcome to our hostel

Let's Go Scotland: '..a restored mill workers' dwelling with river views and modern luxuries only dreamed of by earlier occupants'. Discover the impressive 225-year-old conservation village of New Lanark. Situated in a lovely tree-lined gorge, this World Heritage Site has been beautifully restored. Once the largest cotton spinning complex in Britain, but better known for the 19thC pioneering Utopian social experiments of Robert Owen. Visit the Falls of Clyde, the Scottish Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre and live the past with the Annie McLeod experience. Step over the threshold of the village shop and step back in time. Ideal for school parties. Further afield there's the town of Biggar, the David Livingstone Centre, Strathclyde Park and the Time Capsule. Private and family rooms available.

Very courteous, helpful and efficient check in staff. I could hear a degree of noise emanating from other rooms, at times, and the Wi Fi was intermittent.

The absence of staff at the reception of the hostel even in main season (August) is unfavourable for the modd and general appearance of the hostel (eg housekeeping). The premises would require a general clean-up to reach the level of other Hostelling Scotland hostels.

We enjoyed our stay but the room we were allocated had a tiny floor level window. It was uncomfortably warm due to the window opening around 1inch so not much air getting in. The room smelled stale because of this. No view. The toilet and shower area were clean but the water didn’t drain away so I was standing in a pool of water. The water pressure in the shower was low. Also the TV room smelled musty and stale, bad enough not to sit in it. Staff were friendly and helpful.
