Welcome to our hostel

Let's Go Scotland: '..a restored mill workers' dwelling with river views and modern luxuries only dreamed of by earlier occupants'. Discover the impressive 225-year-old conservation village of New Lanark. Situated in a lovely tree-lined gorge, this World Heritage Site has been beautifully restored. Once the largest cotton spinning complex in Britain, but better known for the 19thC pioneering Utopian social experiments of Robert Owen. Visit the Falls of Clyde, the Scottish Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre and live the past with the Annie McLeod experience. Step over the threshold of the village shop and step back in time. Ideal for school parties. Further afield there's the town of Biggar, the David Livingstone Centre, Strathclyde Park and the Time Capsule. Private and family rooms available.

The warden in charge was really friendly and extremely efficient. When we stayed, he had a party of 30 x 10 year old school children for a two night residential - they were looking at the local nature and the features of New Lanark. The warden did a brilliant job both in keeping the children fed and watered AND in responding to what little we needed. He made sure we had a really comfortable stay.

Since the hostel has become independent from SYHA it has gone down a bit. At least one chair felt dangerous when sitting on, in the common areas. Soap was missing in the shower and in one common toilet. Some of the towels seemed on the brink of falling apart. The person at the reception seemed overworked. Still a pretty good hostel though.

Thanks for your review. I hope you brought the matter of the dangerous chair to the attention of staff on duty, but at this stage, nothing appears to have been reported to them. We are checking all chairs for loose screws and fittings on a regular basis, but sometimes people swing on them causing damage. Checking soap dispensers is a daily task and occasionally these run out without warning. I hope you reported these to staff as well. I agree, some of our towels are in need of replacement and we resort to issuing some of the well worn ones rather than not issuing any at all. I hope you enjoyed your stay. sincerely, Scott, Manager, Wee Row Hostel

Fantastic location. Very comfortable. Only thing lacking was a warm welcome.

Thanks for your review. I am sorry you did not think you received a warm welcome. The staff member on duty is usually very welcoming and I will bring this up with her. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay. sincerely, Scott, Manager, Wee Row Hostel

Thanks for your review. We endeavour to provide a good, free wifi service. Wifi is sometimes restricted by the solid stone walls in these old buildings, so wifi is accessible in areas that are close to the wifi hub. As technology advances, we may be able to provide wifi to all rooms, but at this stage, only about 6 rooms benefit from being in range of the hub. Sincerely, Scott, Manager, Wee Row Hostel

You will find that Hostelling International only take a deposit and the payment you made to them was for a series of bookings? That is the procedure so full payment is never taken at time of making your booking. You pay the balance when you stay at the hostel. Thanks, Scott, Manager Wee Row Hostel
