Under the reign of Mulay Ismail (1672 - 1727), it has experienced a great prosperity and there are still traces of his greatness and of previous eras, that makes this city an unmissable place during a trip to Morocco. Mulay Ismail has chosen Meknes as capital of the country for strategic reasons as well as political and geographical. In addition to its architectural interest evident (even for tourists the less informed), the Kasbah of Meknes enjoys a special importance, because it was the first achievement of the Alaouite dynasty, dynasty which reigned in Morocco for more than 300 years.

Super friendly staff and a small breakfast with tea and orange juice was included. You can reach the Medina by foot within 15 minutes and the hostel is easy to find. We would recommend bringing a sleeping bag because there are no sheets for the woolen blankets.
