Lüneburg

Lüneburg is a Hanseatic city at the gates of Hamburg and one of the most beautiful medieval towns in northern Germany. The old gabled houses, mighty merchants’ houses and the unique brick architecture tell of the prosperity of the patricians and salt merchants but this university town also offers a fascinating backdrop for trendy bars and extensive shopping trips.

The youth hostel is located on the outskirts of the city, right next to the university and the city forest. It takes just 30 minutes to reach the city centre by foot, or 10 minutes by bus or bike.. The outdoor area includes a volleyball court, a streetball hoop, table tennis tables and a barbecue area. There is a football pitch in the neighbouring woods and table football, billiards and even a juggling box in the hostel.

There are many museums to visit in Lüneburg such as the Salt Museum, Brewery Museum and the town Museum to name but a few, together with the Scharnebeck ship lift, where modern cargo ships are raised to a height of 38 metres!

Not far from the youth hostel you can hike through the woods along the Ilmenau river or even adventure out on a canoe. Hope to see you soon!
