Located in Laugarvatn, a village with 300 inhabitants, Hostel Laugarvatn is midway between Þingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir, 100km from Reykjavík.

The hostel is located in three houses, all with a well equipped kitchen and living room with TV. Two of the houses have hot tubs so you can relax after a day’s exploring, and the third is next to an outdoor swimming pool. In the village you will also find a post office, grocery store and a restaurant.

At Hostel Laugarvatn guests can hire boats or sailboards to use at Lake Laugarvatn and the area is great for hiking. Tours to Landmannalaugar and the Highlands can be arranged in the 13-seater Econoliner van, and the nearby Fontana Geothermal Baths is great place to visit to go and get pampered.

The hostel was absolutely fine, but I think that having just come from Reykjavik Downtown it was a bit disappointing by contrast. The signs in the town for finding it are not very clear and it was dark and very rainy when we arrived so it was a bit difficult. I also thought the room was pretty cold and there didn't seem to be any heating, and the towels were very rough. That said, it's still a perfectly good hostel and better than lots I've been to! It's just the comparison with Reykjavic...

Hostel was great - good location, wonderful staff, etc. I just wish there had been a few more communal items in the kitchen - specifically spices - that we could cook with.
