The hostel is located about 100 meters from a large swamp. The mosquitos were eating me alive day and night and the mosquito net is just there for psychological reason. Doesn't help. Secondly, the kitchen is small and so poorly equipped that you can't make a reasonable use of it. This is by design. The manager has a restaurant on the premises. He wants you to spend your money there. Thirdly, the manager demands 50% deposit by email, to which he is not entitled. It is not HI policy, yet he was very forceful. I didn't pay the deposit though. Then, I wanted to shorten the stay, and he refused to refund me the money for the unused days, stating that he makes his own rules on his property. For these reasons, I do not recommend this hostel. But it was very clean and safe.

Friendly, efficient staff, fun cook. Quiet location a block or two from the beach, several blocks from the zocalo. Hammocks invite a siesta. No locks on anything, except some homemade "lockers", though perhaps security is just not a problem here. Might be a little bit overpriced for a cabana with a sand floor.
