I like international hostels and this one fits right in. Interesting location with lots of ethnic dining options. Helpful staff. Easy to get transportation. Free breakfast and sometime dinner. Very clean. Within 1 miles of White House.

Highly recommend this place. It is an old railway hostel that has a “hostel wing” with shared bathrooms and self-catering kitchen. A really atmospheric place. It is a joy just to sit in the lobby. Beware - I booked on hihostels but the bill I received from Hotel Coolidge was higher. Once I emailed them this was rectified immediately, so all good.

The staff here are extremely helpful and friendly. When I went up to my room, the nightstand lamp and space heater were already turned on for me, which was a nice homey touch. What I missed on this stay was hot water. Maybe I just didn't let the faucet run long enough, but I passed on a shower both times I stayed here because there was not hot water in the sink in my room or down the hall at the sink in the small bathroom. I wasn't sure whether hot water was an amenity included for hostel guests or just for regular guests of the hotel.

When I checked in, staff told that they don't ask for deposit, the amount paid on-line goes to HI as service fee. So, I ended up with paying extra. Also, web price was $55. when I made a reservation, but when I got confirmation it went up to $60.60 plus tax, and then when I got to the hotel, my deposit ($4.40) was taken away as a service fee so I ended up paying more than 15% than my original price. Although staff were friendly, Not happy about miscommunication/price differences on the web.

Hostel International does not keep track of our room inventory--meaning that if you request a certain size room, we may not have that available. The rate for the room you stayed in is $65 plus tax. HI takes a $4.40 service charge when you reserve the room through them, and we collect the balance plus the local rooms and meals tax (which we are bound to do, by law.) We subtracted the $4.40 service fee (which you paid directly to HI) from the $65 room rate, and the balance of $60.60 plus tax of $6.06 was charged to your credit card. We believe this to be a very good value for a private (not dormitory style) hostel room.
