Single room is very small, barely bigger than th bed but that means the air conditioner cools it off very quickly, which is a boon in the Bangkok heat. Staff were very helpful with a few tricky travel and communication challenges I was having. This is NOT a social hostel though. No common rooms, no bar. Do not come to this one looking for friends. This provides a quiet bedroom off the beaten track but still with easy access to lots of interesting places.

This was a different hostel experience for me (and I've been hosteling since 1977). By the time I left, I had fallen in love with Thewet. Very clean and quiet. Not a dorm experience or a traditional travelers/backpackers hostel. Perfect for a traveler who is equally comfortable with a quiet stay without all the interactions that come with a traditional backpackers hostel. Also, Thewet (pronounced 'thay-way') is not in the heart of the high tourist areas. It's on a major road (Phitsonulok) and a full on Bangkok experience, walkable to nearby shops and restaurants.. Hostel staff helped me use the local bus system (which was a great savings). There's no kitchen (that I could find) but because of the hot climate, most Bangkok people buy takeaway from street vendors and tiny restaurants (they're everywhere). My tiny room had a bed, desk, shower, toilet, sink and...a great air conditioning unit. That's all I needed. Water from the tap seemed perfectly good. Day and night, The establishment was quiet, and during my 8-day stay, II was the only westerner.

Unless you enjoy sleeping on a hard bed in a prison cell and huge language barrier, go for it. no breakfast, no social action, no longer the top hostel it use to be...much better values in Bkk.
