HI Tibbetts Point Lighthouse hostel is located two miles beyond the town centre of Cape Vincent, New York, on the banks of Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River. This seasonal hostel, with limited open dates, has great views of the lake and river, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and sunsets over Canada. It can be reached from either the US or from Canada (Kingston to Wolfe Island to Cape Vincent).

While you are staying at the hostel, stop by the Lighthouse Museum next door and tour on bicycle or foot the historic sites of Cape Vincent.Popular day trips include Thousand Islands boat tours, the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, Sacketts Harbor, and the many state parks in the area. Many guests make the crossing into Canada to visit Wolfe Island and Kingston. This is a great region for cycling, kayaking, and fishing.

Due to its small staff, the hostel has a lockout period from 10am to 5pm daily. There is no curfew. 2016 season dates: June 17-September 10.

Hostel manager was more than kind to stay up a half hour late to greet me. Very good experience with a lovely hostel, in a terrific location. They should get more visitors out there if they could have some more publicity for the place---really nice!

Had an excellent time talking with the host and his guests. He was very helpful and informative. Learned several new things and just had an interesting conversation.

Attraction tip

The new "learn how to fire a cannon" program at Fort Wllington (www.pc.gc.ca/wellington). This is a Canadian National Park so you will need a passport to travel from the States.
