Hostel Sausalito

Hostelling International

Welcome to our hostel

Marin Headlands, a comfortable hostel in a rustic setting, sits on a hillside in the Marin Headlands section of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

The hostel itself is nice and spacious with a large kitchen, large reading room with couches, and a downstairs game room with foos ball, pool table, and a ping-pong table.

In the park just outside the door, you can hike the open meadows, bike the coastal mountainside, check out the operating Point Bonita lighthouse, tour military barracks and batteries from both world wars, see the nation's only officially restored Nike missile site, or head to one of many local beaches. Several other popular destinations, including Mount Tamalpais State Park and Muir Woods, where you can stand or hike among the majestic coastal redwoods are also nearby.

We are in a beautifully isolated area with very limited to no cell reception and no public transportation except for on Saturday and Sunday.

In the future I would check if there are large groups staying before I book a bed here.. I never knew who was staff of group leaders. The kitchen during my visit was unavailable.. Obviously the group leaders or who ever they were watched my like I was going to steal something from them.. The kids were rude and could care less about other visitors, when I was checking in they almost knocked me down running up the stairs. 2nd time I got a email to review this hostel. One is enough

I LOVED staying here! The buildings themselves are full of history and so so cool to stay in! That’s on top of being in a wonderful location! I woke up to the should of wind through the trees and an owl. Seriously magical.

If the bathrooms could be cleaned twice a day ,instead of once it would be great. Also would love to know a little more about the building itself. Lovely building.

I absolutely loved this place. I had never stayed at a hostel before and was admittedly nervous mostly because I was all on my own but from the minute I walked in the door it felt warm and inviting. The location was beautifully quiet for as close to San Francisco as it is and the common area was comfortable enough I fell asleep for a nice nap in the afternoon without ever feeling disturbed.

Wonderful hostel all around. Would be great if Laundry and Game room had longer hours. Also, there is enough space that individual luggage-sized lockers could be made available somwhere - ideally outside the rooms - always a huge plus. The dorms have no locker storage for luggage, but I always preffer to have the luggage locked outside and that way I don't wake up others while sorting and tidying up luggage.
