Hostel Sausalito

Hostelling International

Welcome to our hostel

Marin Headlands, a comfortable hostel in a rustic setting, sits on a hillside in the Marin Headlands section of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

The hostel itself is nice and spacious with a large kitchen, large reading room with couches, and a downstairs game room with foos ball, pool table, and a ping-pong table.

In the park just outside the door, you can hike the open meadows, bike the coastal mountainside, check out the operating Point Bonita lighthouse, tour military barracks and batteries from both world wars, see the nation's only officially restored Nike missile site, or head to one of many local beaches. Several other popular destinations, including Mount Tamalpais State Park and Muir Woods, where you can stand or hike among the majestic coastal redwoods are also nearby.

We are in a beautifully isolated area with very limited to no cell reception and no public transportation except for on Saturday and Sunday.

We have been coming here on road trips from Seattle since before we had children. Now we get to share the experience with our school-age kids and a family room works well. Yes, Marin hostel does *everything* right! But it's the flora, fauna, the coastal air, healing eucalyptus, and the hikes/trails of this location that are unique. The hostel's indoor/outdoor spaces offer plenty for unwinding and self care, or you have San Francisco just a quick drive over the GG Bridge! Amazing place!!

Biodegradable dish soap and natural fiber dish washing tool (loofah instead of sponge) would be more green. Lockers are not big enough for my laptop, which I would like to lock up when I go out for a walk, etc. I wish there was a way to dampen the noise from the stairway.

A rather outdated hostel in a beautiful building and location. It would be stunning if it is renewed.

Our hostel is definitely old school and a pretty nostalgic place for many people. We are happy to update though! We just need some specific tips; please feel free to send us an email with specific suggestions and we're happy to look into it and change where we can. We want this place to be as cozy as possible for our guests! Happy Travels!

First off, I love the hostel and will be back! For the area marked fair, I was in the glacier room and once the windows were closed at night, it really stunk in there. I also don't like the idea of using a comforter that someone else used unless the cover has been cleaned. I also had flea bites on the first night but I cant say for certain when I was bit. I didn't get any more bites the second night. Last, I mentioned it to staff but food of mine was stolen out of the marked bag in the fridge.

I'm glad to hear you had a nice time out here! We'll definitely look into giving Glacier a more thorough deep clean. We do have a regular cleaning schedule for our duvets. We checked glacier and couldn't find evidence of any fleas, but as an extra precaution, washed all duvets and curtains in that room as soon as we saw this review. Our field out front does have lots of bugs and the bite may have come from there if you were out hiking. I'm so sorry to hear your food was stolen! We'll do some brainstorming on how to keep that from happening. Thanks for your time and helpful suggestions! Happy travels!

We had an excellent experience here. I like the area because it is so peaceful and lots of nice trails and things to see here. I never realized there was a lower level with fun things to do!
