HI Santa Cruz is a picturesque cottage perched atop the historic Beach Hill neighbourhood. The hostel is in a convenient location, only two blocks from beaches, the wharf and the Boardwalk Amusement Park, and only 5 blocks to downtown. All public transportation is within walking distance.
This Santa Cruz hostel offers dorms and private rooms. Guests can enjoy the pretty gardens, common room, kitchen and dining hall. With Internet and laundry facilities available on site, this is the perfect base for exploring the city.
One of the highlights of Santa Cruz is the Beach Boardwalk which dates from 1907 and is the oldest beachfront amusement park on the West Coast. The boardwalk has a glorious old-school Americana vibe and its most famous rides include the half-mile long Giant Dipper, a vintage 1924 wooden roller coaster, and the 1911 Looff carousel – both National Historic Landmarks.
What travellers think
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The fridge in the kitchen was somewhat scary. My only real qualm with the SC hostel was the mandated shutdown between 11am and 5pm. Regardless of any inconvenience, it really limited the social component that I look forward to when I stay at a hostel.
