HI Santa Cruz is a picturesque cottage perched atop the historic Beach Hill neighbourhood. The hostel is in a convenient location, only two blocks from beaches, the wharf and the Boardwalk Amusement Park, and only 5 blocks to downtown. All public transportation is within walking distance.

This Santa Cruz hostel offers dorms and private rooms. Guests can enjoy the pretty gardens, common room, kitchen and dining hall. With Internet and laundry facilities available on site, this is the perfect base for exploring the city.

One of the highlights of Santa Cruz is the Beach Boardwalk which dates from 1907 and is the oldest beachfront amusement park on the West Coast. The boardwalk has a glorious old-school Americana vibe and its most famous rides include the half-mile long Giant Dipper, a vintage 1924 wooden roller coaster, and the 1911 Looff carousel – both National Historic Landmarks.

I was in a co-ed dorm and was told that the hostel was almost full. There were two men and two women in my three bunk bedroom. Next door was an empty room with two bunk beds and a single bed. I woke up alone in my room. Two of the others had migrated to the other bedroom (leaving their sheets behind) b/c one of the men snored. The snorer had migrated to the couch b/c he didn't want to climb into the top bunk. Why leave one room empty and crowd another? I don't understand.
