HI-San Francisco Downtown is housed in a renovated hotel in the heart of San Francisco's tourist district, in a vibrant neighbourhood filled with clubs, restaurants, bars and theatres. It’s just one block from Union Square and steps from Chinatown and the South of Market neighbourhood.
The hostel has all the modern-day comforts you'd expect and provides both private and dorm rooms, with a maximum of 4 beds per dorm. What travellers think
During the nights, someone(may drunken) yelled and talked so loud without consideration other people who sleep, and nobody didn't let them stop. So it was really hard to make deep sleep.

I liked the environmental practices and the rooms were clean also. What I didn't liked too much was that there were too much homeless outside the hostel.

Marin area, great for cycling especially if you like a bit of hilly lands.

Denver or Chicago by train: take the California Zephyr from Emeryville through the Rockies. It's a long trip but definitely worth it!
