Our mattress had a massive slump in it from continued people sitting on the edge. It was so bad you sunk into it - clearly either a very old and used mattress. The rest of it was uncomfortable and lumpy - my boyfriend and I had lots of difficulty sleeping on it for 4 nights. I suggest that better quality mattresses be used or rotate them occasionally.

The room we stayed was nice and clean. The hostel's environment/atmosphere was pretty nice (the lounge on the second floor is great). The hostel offered complimentary breakfast and the quality was quite good. The only thing I would say is the location might be kinda noisy, however, it's extremely convenient. So do bring your earplug if you are a light sleeper.

Where next?

Denver or Chicago by train: take the California Zephyr from Emeryville through the Rockies. It's a long trip but definitely worth it!
