Welcome to our hostel

Situated in one of Portland's most popular destinations, Portland Hawthorne Hostel offers quaint eateries, coffee houses, pubs, unique shops and the famous Bagdad Brewpub and Theatre. It's the perfect blend of urban pulse and friendly attitude. Our hostel does not have a 24-hour check-in desk and all guests must arrive before 10pm to complete check-in requirements.

The hostel offers a spacious kitchen and common rooms, comfortable beds and free Wi-Fi. Free Breakfast includes coffee/tea, all-u-can-make pancake, cereal or oatmeal with milk.

Outside there are front decks and a side yard for relaxing and people watching.

Please note: There is a neighborhood cat that hangs out mostly outside but occasionally comes into the foyer. It does not go anywhere else in the hostel.

Discounted bike rentals are available as well as (third-party) tours from the hostel to the Columbia Gorge, Mount St. Helens, whale watching and historic Portland. A quick trip to city attractions such as Powell's Books, the Old Town, weekend market, Washington Park and Willamette River Promenade are also recommended.

Great hostel experience! Comfortable beds, friendly people to meet, free coffee and tea, good access to public transportation. Our only two issues were that our bedroom (the family room) was pretty cold, and the bath tub was clogged once when I tried to take a shower.

Wow! I loved this hostel and I want to go back as soon as I can. It's got a great atmosphere and the location is terrific- I enjoyed Hawthorne Street a lot, and I appreciated that it's such a safe neighborhood. The hostel is very welcoming. I love the variety of hang-out areas around the building. Thanks for having GREAT ladders on the bunk beds (I was in Willamette). Many other hostels have bunk beds that are difficult to climb up and down or where the rungs hurt your feet. Yours are the best!

I was there for a very short stay and I had to leave early in the morning, so I cannot say much. I appreciated the tea that was available for drinking at all times. For me, the only problem was having to cook my breakfast. I didn't really have time to cook and eat and wash up, so I had to skip breakfast.

Great location. Could improve bed rooms - more privacy, individual lights for each bed

Hello Evelyn, Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. We totally agree and are looking at adding a shelf unit with a reading light in each bunk. We are hoping to do this sometime in the next year. Happy Travels, Talbot Manager
