Welcome to our hostel

Located in the heart of the city, The Metcalf House Hostel is a short distance from the airport, bus and train stations, and within walking distance of downtown, parks, museums, and shopping centres.

We offer a free breakfast, free street parking, kitchen and laundry facilities. As we are a desert hostel we have our front and back yard areas which planted with desert cactus, aloes and shrubs.

As Arizona's capital city, Phoenix has much to offer. The Desert Botanical Gardens at Papago Park features Sonoran Desert plant life. Visit the Heard Museum, renowned for Native American exhibits. Arizona has more Indian reservations than any other state. There are many inexpensive cinemas and clubs featuring blues music. Food Markets are a 12 minute walk. Hike the mountain parks in Phoenix and in summer clear rivers provide cool respite.

I appreciate the friendly staff & volunteers. When a shower handle malfunctioned, the volunteer was able to remedy the problem. Who is that mentally-challenged person? He needs to leave! He talked non-stop and blared the TV after quiet hours in the next room. The facility itself is awful! The slab is heaved in the Hopi room, so the floor slopes at odd places, making it hazardous at night. The Zuni room doesn't have a bathroom. The communal off the kitchen doesn't accommodate everyone.

Kate is one of the friendliest hostel staff members I've ever encountered! The hostel itself has a really homey feel to it, unlike the huge hostels in Chicago and San Diego, and reminds me of the wonderful hostels I've stayed at in Western Europe.

As the hostel is small, it is nice to see most people talk to each other and I especially enjoyed the breakfast provided!
