The 3,363-metre peak of Mt. Edith Cavell towers over our little hostel set in a narrow valley below this spectacular setting. An ideal base from which to explore Angel Glacier, Cavell Meadows or Tonquin Valley. This is a Wilderness Hostel. No running water, outdoor toilets and NO electricity.
James did not know that we needed to drive our car to the corral across the street to deliver supplies to Tonquin Valley. He strongly discouraged us from driving where we needed. Would be good to be informed. Said he was in a hurry to get out and could we hurry and get out. That did not feel so friendly. And also that since there were only two of us we couldn't have a fire in the bunkhouse. Many more people came that night. Still no fire. It snowed that night, so it was cold!
Ernie was great.

The outhouses really need to be updated. The wood was well dried so building the fires was easy. The other hostelers were respectful and friendly The view couldn't be beat. Overall a good first experience of a wilderness hostel.

Awesome location. Less than 5 minutes from Mt Edith Cavell. Far from all the maddening crowds. Friendly manager. Made extra efforts to accommodate people without reservations that were stranded due to the bad weather...Even accommodated some people in the dining room when he ran out of space in the bunks.
On the flip side, could be a little more cleaner. That might perhaps be due to the extra guests that were accommodated due to the rains. Will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful day hikes, rustic bunk house and kitchen. Great place to land away from the crowds.
