Hostel is constantly improving, from its fix-your-own breakfast options to its bathroom facilities. For quiet and comfort, it can't be beat. Beautiful location above the Potomac River, within walking distance of the C&O Canal towpath and only a few miles from Harper's Ferry National Park and Antietam National Battlefield. The town of Shepherdstown WV, 15 miles from the hostel, offers abundant cultural offerings, including one of the best summer theater festivals in the nation.

Very good hiking and C&O trail biking hostel. Location is off the trail and up a hill but it's worth the climb to get there. Limited food available nearby but adequate enough to refuel for the next day on the trail.

The hostel was in a beautiful location, with views down to the river. It was a lovely city break from DC.

I was doing the GAP/C&O bike ride from Pittsburgh to DC. The HI was at the great spot along the route for me because I ran out of clean clothes by day 5 and I was very happy to be able to do my laundry there. The lounge / kitchen area was very comfortable and a great place for socializing. Shower / toilet facilities are clean and well maintained. The only drawback is the lack of clear directions on how to get to HI from C&O tow path. Some of my pals could not find it and stay elsewhere instead.

It was a wonderful stay. Great communal space made it easy to meet other travelers and everything was comfortable. My only complaint is that, especially as a hiker-biker hostel, it is not in a hiker-biker friendly spot - it's a pretty unsafe street dealing with traffic, and a very steep hill for people who are likely already tired from traveling the C&O. Once you're there, though, it's a lovely experience.
