some of the staff didn't seem to have much knowledge about the surrounding area because they are international students on a summer work visa, so it's understandable. However, it would be a little better if they were provided some knowledge, such as there is a shuttle from the nearby Glacier Lodge that goes to St Marys and Two Medicine Lake. It's pricey but it exists in the summer time. I stayed in Whitefish before (in a local hostel that since last year has closed) and this place wasn't as chill, but it serves its purpose. It really is like some kind of old wooden lodge, the walls/ floors are creaky and slanty , which is actually kind of fun. Good place for crashing, i hopped off the east-bound train and stayed there one night, hitching a ride to Two Medicine Lake and hiking back (yes, there is a route, it's 10-13 miles long), then hopping on the train again the next day.

Exit the Amtrak train station facing the Glacier Park Lodge and turn right on Hwy 49. Walk about 1/3 of a mile. The hostel will be on your right.
