Feldberg is the highest mountain of the Black Forest and Feldberg/Schwarzwald youth hostel is located on its summit (1,234 m above sea level).

Facilities include a table-tennis, gym with a climbing wall, games, digital projector, Internet access, juggling box, football, volleyball and barbecue area, basketball stands, campfire site.

Ski fans can enjoy 50km of groomed slopes with several snow cannons. In summer, explore the largest nature reserve in the state of Baden-Württemberg with its fabulous landscape and many lakes. Trips to the high rope course, the beaches of Lake Titisee, Steinwasen leisure park and the Todtnau coaster can be also arranged by the hostel. With the KONUS Feldberg visitor’s card (available if you pay tourist tax) you can use local transport free of charge. The lovely city of Freiburg and Basel, over the border in Switzerland, are definitely worth a visit.

I was only one night at the Feldberg hostel and it was very comfortable. I would have appreciated a later check out time, however. Best feature is the hostel's proximity to the Haus der Natur.

Comfortable old-fashioned hostel with great atmosphere. Particularly enjoyed breakfast. Excellent views. Easy walk to top of Feldberg. From summit don't miss fairly strenuous circular walk round all sides of the mountain to arrive back at hostel.

Budget meal tip

Had the best Linsensuppe mit Wurst that I've ever eaten at the Wilhelmer Hütte near the Gipfel of Mt. Feldberg. (Hut is .8 kilometers from the peak, but the entrance to the Hütte consists of 71 STEEP steps down and, of course,71 wieder UP!
