Welcome to our hostel

This Dingle Youth Hostel is located in the Gaeltacht area and is the most westerly Youth Hostel in Europe. The coastline is only a five minute drive away and features rugged cliffs, including The Slea Head Cliffs.

The Dun Chaoin features a comfortable common room and offers a variety of room types. In the mornings, the hostel serves light continental breakfast. The hostel also offers a self-catering kitchen and a dining room, overlooking the Blasket Islands. Packed lunches are available for groups, with prior request.

The location of this hostel is wild and wonderful. The views from dining room and lounge over the ocean are fantastic. The kitchen with the Aga burning at the end is well stocked for cooking and a great place for conversations with others. The owner was helpful and available. Beds are comfortable and rooms clean. We were very tempted to stay on but our itinerary kept us moving.

Beautiful location; welcoming, informative and helpful hosts. It might be nice to have a family room option; other than that, we found it comfortable and facilities perfectly adequate. Enjoyed the evening fires, and getting aquainted with other guests from all over Europe.

Getting to us

Getting to us

Kerry Airport. approx 1.5 hour drive from hostel
Bus service from airport. Limited bus service from Tralee to Dingle and then from Dingle to Dun Chaoin.
From Tralee follow the signs to Dingle (N86). Follow the road from Dingle to Dun Chaoin by Slea Head or Ballyferriter. The hostel is located 5miles/8km from Ballyferriter. From Dingle to Dun Chaoin via Slea Head will take you approx 45 minutes drive (this is the most scenic drive but also the most dangerous with very narrow roads). From Dingle via Ballyferriter will take you approx 30 minutes drive which will bring you along much wider and safer roads. If driving at night time and you are not familiar with the area we would suggest you take the Ballyferriter route. The hostel is located at the very top of the main road just before you turn off for Dun Chaoin. Free car parking for guests at Dunquin Hostel
Tralee (64km) - approx 1 Hour Drive
