Hostelling International

Welcome to our hostel

Covid-19 UPDATE: As we reopen, always with the safety of hostellers, staff and the community in which we operate at heart, we have updated how we operate and introduced some new processes and procedures. These include the introduction of hand sanitising points on the ground floor, a protective screen at our reception desk, enhanced cleaning of high touch and high traffic areas, and signage to remind guests of the social distancing measures in place in Northern Ireland. We will also have a basic one way system operating, as far as possible, so your journey through our hostel is smooth.
In addition some of the facilities you might expect will not be available or closed for the time being: these include our TV room and library: luggage storage before check in and after check out: our lift (apart from for guests with restricted mobility): our self-catering kitchen (although we have set up a mini station with the basics for you).
As part of the hostel registration procedure you will be asked to provide more contact information than usual, which can be made available to Public Health Agency on request: you will also be required to sign up to all of the Covid-19 preventative measures in place at the time of your visit. Please note that in line with current UK government guidance if a guest is confirmed to have COVID-19 during a stay they will be required to leave our accommodation and return home if they reasonably can.
The situation is changing very quickly at the moment so we will email you as your arrival approaches with updates on both the hostel and general guidelines in place in Northern Ireland.

Belfast International Youth Hostel is the largest in Belfast City and situated between Belfast’s cosmopolitan city centre and the lively University Quarter. Perfect for all ages, the hostel offers excellent value accommodation.

This Belfast hostel offers both en suite and standard bedrooms in a variety of sizes: there are excellent self-catering facilities and the Causeway Cafe is also open for breakfast and lunch.

The hostel has a secure free car park (first come, first park).

Queen's University, Belfast’s Botanic Gardens, the award-winning Ulster Museum, City Hall, the main shopping areas, Europa Bus Station and Botanic Train Stations are all within walking distance of the hostel. It's only two train stops to the iconic Titanic Belfast exhibition. You can even start a Giants Causeway or Game of Thrones tour from the hostel.

Please note that all guests are required to register and show a photo identification on check in. A cash key deposit of £5 is taken from every guest on check in: this is returned with an on time check out and return of keys: we do not have change and cannot accept coins so please be prepared on arrival.

MAXIMUM STAY per calendar year: 28 nights. Maximum number of nights per visit: 7. No return visits within 14 days of a 7 night stay. No more than 7 nights total are permitted in any 14 night period.

Thank you for your feedback: it's always appreciated. We are very lucky with our location, the closest hostel accommodation to both the main bus station and Botanic Rail Station (with easy connections to Titanic Quarter). Our staff works very hard to make sure that our guests feel welcome: I'm glad you highlighted that. Hopefully we'll see you again. David

Good but difficult to find with construction work all around. Only short term one would think. Good location for younger people’s night life, bars and food etc.

Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback. I don't think there is any building work going on nearby, so I am a little confused by the "construction work all around" comment. Everything else sounds accurate though: we are perfectly set up to for short term stays: and there are lots of places for eating and drinking in the area (as we are close to the university). Thank you for your great 93% score! See you again. David

The staff were very helpful and pleasant, and helped to make my stay enjoyable. One added bonus is that a company that provides excellent coach tours of the Northern Ireland countryside has an office on the ground floor of the hostel, and the "Game of Thrones" tour that I took was one of the highlights of my visit. The hostel was had a very convenient location, walking distance from attractions such at Belfast City Hall and the nearby shopping district, as well as being just down the road from Queen's University and the many interesting things to do and see ther.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. A positive review at that! It is very much appreciated, particularly referencing our helpful and pleasant staff. Belfast is a very compact city and a lot of places of interest are just a short walk away: we are also just a 10 mimnute walk from the main bus station and around the corner from Botanic Rail Station. I hope you wlll recommend us to friends and family back home. David

Friendly hostel. I used kitchen facilities but on two days had food stolen from my shelf - bananas and peaches, disappointed by this. Did inform staff. Crockery and utensil provision could be better. Loved central location near bus station. Would return again..

Thank you. It's good to read that you would return for another visit: the best recommendation. I am sorry that you had some issues in the kitchen. Kitchens are the part of a hostel, more than any other, where trust comes in to play: it's sad when some hostellers betray that trust. We do our best to keep the kichen well supplied with cutlery and so on and replenish as required. See you next time you travel this way. David

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. Our common areas were updated and refurnsihed relatively recently: comparing past with present I can assure the difference is marked, but we continue improving and updating as we go. Hopefully we'll see you again on your next trip to Northern Ireland. Thank you. David
