We had one of the 12 double rooms, small but very nice, bathroom excellent. Common room also nice. The best and beautiful was the restaurant, one of the most beautiful places we have been. Drinks like mojito excellent. Did not favour Western breakfast, went out for dumplings. Enjoyed some of the food, but when I ordered German sausage, the sausage was excellent, but one tea spoon full of sourcrout and one tea spoon full (no joking) of cold mashed potatoes came with it, absolutely hilarious....

We stayed a week at the Peking Youth Hostel after a much more posh hotel for a conference in another part of Beijing. The staff speak good English and were incredibly helpful with our driver to the Great Wall, to the airport and even to the Beijing opera. The rooms and the beds here are not luxurious, but they serve their purpose and are cleaned everyday. Stay here for the quiet, plant and flower-filled calm right in the midst of one of Beijing's trendy hutong neighborhoods. The hostel had every amenity we needed, and the food in the attached cafe was also very good and reasonably priced with the discount you get for staying at the hostel. The wi-fi was faster and more reliable than other places in the city and never felt like either we or our possessions were unsafe here; they have free lockers if you have things you need locked up. We much preferred our experience here to the other "nicer" hotel we stayed in and I will be recommending it to everyone I know in the future.
