The hostel is located in a great location in Vieux Lyon; although you have to walk up a steep hill to get there. It has an amazing view of the city from the terrace where you can eat your complimentary breakfast (baguette/cereal/coffee/orange juice) and it's only a short walk away from Roman Ruins, the Basilica and the Central City. However I would not stay here again. There were no storage lockers at the hostel so the staff advised me to leave any important belongings in the lobby with them which was simply impractical. My room had very little light, so I couldn't even see if the bed was clean and it only had one electrical socket though it was meant for 8 people. There was no wifi in the room and my phone connection was weak despite having a French phone company. On entry I found a dirty plastic bag behind the pillow of my bed, between the bed and the wall. I had to leave my key at the front desk everytime I left the hostel, which felt like an unnecessary policy. Worst of all the bathroom was not clean; the wall had a hole to the outside, the basin's pipes were stuck together with sticky tape and the taps for the shower and basin only ran for a couple seconds when you pressed them, with very hot, burning water coming out. You had to lean against the tap the entire shower if you wanted it to work, and then it would burn you. Staff were not particularly friendly, and many times I entered the lobby the people sitting behind the front desk were actually not working there. I even had to wait for a staff member in the lobby once to give them my key as I was leaving, while they tried to turn a vending machine upside down to get food out - completely unprofessional behaviour. The hostel felt like it housed homeless people and there were men always hanging around the terrace. It was not a comfortable atmosphere for a girl staying alone. Though it is supposedly a 'youth' hostel I saw many people over the age of 40 and even a woman in my room who was elderly. I had a terrible sleep as my room (33 - for 8 women) was freezing cold and humid. I do not recommend this place. Though it initially seems cheap; you have to pay a membership fee. I know now that it is simply not worth it. I have no idea how they received a Hostelling International accreditation, I will not stay in one of these hostels again. Other companies of youth hostels provide a friendly, clean experience with working showers, key cards you can keep for your stay and storage lockers/wifi in the rooms..... (and more!). I encourage you to look elsewhere. I was stressed, and anxious about coming back to the Hostel and it impacted my time in Lyon. I am shocked that I haven't seen more negative reviews, but perhaps it is because not many people actually stay there.
